Saint Pierre District History |
The history of the district Saint Pierre begins in the gallo-Roman time, when Bordeaux was still only a seaport.. The ancien searport was banked up in the XIIth century.
Docks were put back southward, in the outlet of another estey. In 1832, we discovered, under the place Saint Pierre, Hercule's statue, bronze, which had to decorate the entrance of the seaport then fitted out in the mouth of an estey. This statue is one of the most beautiful details of the museum of Aquitaine today.
In the XVIIIth century the district was kicked away by bringing down the medieval wall. The place of the stock exchange and the Royal street (rue Fernand Philipart) were fitted out as well as the place of Royal market (place of the Parliament).
Today the district is places privileged by the persons who want to be made a resto or to drink a glass in the evening.
