The name of the place is an honoring to the powerful Parliament of Bordeaux. Louis XI gave to Chinon the letters of institution of a Parliament in Bordeaux in 1462.
Its spring included the sénéchaussées of Aquitaine, Landes, Bazadais, Agenais, Périgord and the region of Saintonge.
The Parliament settled down so in November, 1462 in the palace of Ombrière. He played an important role in 1545 during the revolt of the Salt tax and hanging the Sling.
In 1665, he was exiled to Agen and to Réole and in 1790, he was killed.
Among the members that this institution counted, we find Montaigne, the poet La Boétie, Charron, etc.
The place was called place of the Royal Market, then Market from the Freedom during the Revolution. The fountain which is in the centre dates the second Empire.
